Carrie Jackson Quartet

Carrie Jackson and her Jazzin' All Star Ensemble will perform musical selections songs from the Great American Song Book. "She electrifies her audiences with her dynamic music and takes the audience by storm with her charm and temperament" says Jerome Wilson, Cadence Jazz. "Carrie Jackson is a rich-voiced blues, ballads and jazz standards singer who knows how to put a song across!" says Zan Stewart, Star Ledger Critic.

Maucha Adnet Quartet - Celebrating 50 Years of Bossa Nova!

Maucha Adnet - Vocals, Daduka DeFonseca - Drums, Helio Alves - Piano, Leanardo Cioglia - Bass

From Rio de Janeiro Maucha Adnet has performed and recorded with the legendary composer and performer Antonio Carlos Jobim. She was the guest vocalist on Randy Brecker's Grammy Winner CD 'Into the Sun'. Maucha has been performing regularly with her own band and has performed in shows with Claudio Roditi, Herbie Mann, Trio da Paz, Oscar Castro Neves, Eliane Elias, Mark Johnson, Slide Hampton, and Randy Brecker, She has performed at various venues, notably; Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Blue Note and Birdland. Most recently she was the guest vocalist performing with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Cyro Baptista at Alice Tully Hall (NY), May 2002. Maucha has a solo CD 'Songs I Learned From Jobim', released in Japan (Venus Records).

Duke Ellington Legacy Band featuring Nancy Reed and Norman Simmons

The Duke Ellington Legacy was founded by Duke's namesake grandson, Edward Kennedy Ellington II in 2003. The Legacy is a 9-piece group dedicated to keeping Ellington's music alive via live performances, radio and recordings. The Legacy includes arrangements and playing by legendary pianist, accompanist and arranger Norman Simmons, vocalist Nancy Reed, 3 horns and rhythm. The Duke Ellington Legacy recently released its debut CD, "Thank You Uncle Edward" on Renma Recordings

Kate Baker Quintet featuring Vic Juris with Special Guest Judi Silvano

West Orange's own Oscar Perez on Piano, Vic Juris - Guitar, Anthony Pinciotti - Drums, Harvie S. - Bass, Mayra Casales - Percussion

This band is comprised of Kate Baker vocals, Harvie S. bass, Anthony Pincioti drums, Vic Juris guitar, and Ted Brancato piano. Kate Baker is an internationally renowned Jazz singer and vocal coach currently teaching at the New School University and Veneto Jazz Workshop. She has performed at the Carini Jazz Festival, The North Sea Jazz Festival, JVC Jazz Festival and many others. Private practice for 15 in Vocal Technique for recording artists in all styles of music.

Dave Stryker and the West Orange All Stars with special guest Billy Hart

Dave Stryker - Guitar. Xavier Davis - Piano, Ed Howard - Bass, Steven Riley - Tenor Sax, Billy Hart - Drums, Steve Slagle - Alto sax, plus special guests

Guitarist Dave Stryker leads an all--star group made up of fellow West Orange residents Xavier Davis piano, Ed Howard bass, and Steven Riley on tenor sax. They are joined by Montclair drum legend Billy Hart, and alto saxist Steve Slagle. Stryker, recently voted a Rising Star in the 2008 Down Beat Readers Poll, worked with Stanley Turrentine for over 10 years and has released 20 CD's under his own name. Xavier Davis has also released several CD's and along with Billy Hart who performs on Dave's most recent CD "Strike up the Band" (SteepleChase). Billy Hart is known as one of the greatest drummers alive and has played with everyone from Miles Davis to Stan Getz. Ed Howard has played with Roy Haynes and Shirley Horn, and is a member of the Stryker / Slagle Band which Dave co-leads with Steve Slagle, who has 10 CD's of his own out, as well as work with Mingus Big Band, and Joe Lovano Nonet. Steven Riley has released 3 CD's on SteepleChase and worked with Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr.

Geri Allen - Piano, Kenny Davis - Bass, Kassa Overall - Drums

Geri Allen Trio is Geri Allen piano, Kassa Overall drums, and Kenny Davis bass. Geri Allen has been hailed as "a jazz pianist who dares to follow an unmarked road" (The New York Times) and honored for "her extensive music education and devotion to the swinging roots of jazz" (The Los Angeles Times), pianist/composer Geri Allen is a true original. Her first major Blue Note release was in 1992. In 1995 she was the first recipient for Soul Train's Lady of Soul Award for jazz album of the year for Twenty-One featuring Tony Williams and Ron Carter. In 1996 she was the first woman to win the coveted Danish Jazzpar Prize. Allen continues to compose, produce and educate.

Grupo Latin Vibe is comprised of Tommy Mattioli, Awilda Mercedes Santiago, Anibal "Tito" Rivera, Carlos Velazquez, William Paul Rodriguez, Giancarlo Anderson, and Victor Rendon. The group is a Salsa/Latin Jazz band that brings a high powered energy filled show to the band stand; they have been featured in several night clubs in the metropolitan area and have performed regularly at Gonzalez y Gonzalez and at the Parkside Lounge.

Enrico Granafei - Chromatic Harmonica and Guitar

Harmonica virtuoso, classical guitarist, singer, songwriter, arranger, composer Enrico Granafei has a long history of musical experience which encompasses both Classical Music and Jazz.

 

He has recorded with Eddie Gomez, Eliot Zigmund. Marc Johnson, Adam Nussbaum, Ted Curson, Nnena Freelon (Concord records) and many others.

Enrico's latest accomplishment is his work on Hands-Free-Chromatic Harmonica. The revolutionary instrument invented by Vern Smith allows him to play Chromatic Harmonica and Guitar at the same time, something that nobody has ever done before in Jazz. Close your eyes and you will hear two or three musicians but in fact it's only one! Enrico is one of the most respected players of the Chromatic Harmonica in the world today and continues to cultivate an audience for the instrument through his international performances.

Richie Cole and the Alto Madness Orchestra

Richie Cole fans continue to praise the jazz/bebop artist who was listed in the 2006 edition of Marquis Who's Who in America. Cole is recognized worldwide for the sweet sounds of his alto sax and the creativity behind his Alto Madness Orchestra. The Orchestra was developed by Richie in the early 90s with the idea behind it being, "the concept and sound of an eighteen-piece big band using only seven instruments, four of which are horns." Richie Cole has recorded 50 albums, both on his own and along with Eddie Jefferson, Freddie Hubbard, Art Pepper, James Moody, Bobby McFerrin, Nancy Wilson, Sonny Stitt and Phil Woods.

Allan Harris Quintet featuring Don Braden

Allan Harris Quintet with Allan Harris vocals, Don Braden sax, Cecil Brooks III drums, Cliff Korman piano, and Calvin Jones bass. Allan Harris is the 2004 New York Nightlife Award Winner for 'Outstanding Male Jazz Vocalist". He has sung and recorded with some of the best jazz pianists in the world: Cyrus Chestnut, Bill Charlap, Eric Reed, Bruce Barth, and Tommy Flanagan. BET Jazz has recorded and aired several Allan Harris concerts with hosts Lou Rawls and Ramsey Lewis. CBS News has conducted 2 interviews with Harris about Cross That River. Will Friedwald, the author of "Jazz Singing" and "Sinatra" calls him "probably the most exciting singer on the scene." CNN's Showbiz Tonight referred to Harris as "one of the three best male jazz vocalists in the country."

Nilson Matta and Brazilian Voyage with special guest Harry Allen.

Nilson Matta - Bass, Klaus Muller - Piano, Mauricio Zottarelli - Drums

Nilson Matta's Brazilian Voyage Trio with Nilson Matta bass, Klaus Muller piano, and Mauricio Zottarelly drums. Nilson Matta has long been considered one of Brazil's best bass players. He has performed and recorded with such renowned artists like Paquito D'Rivera, Slide Hampton, Herbie Mann, Mark Murphy, Kenny Barron and many others. Matta worked extensively with four time Grammy Award winning saxophonist Joe Henderson, recording on the Grammy award winning 1997 "Joe Henderson Big Band" (Verve Records). In 2003 and 2004 he recorded 2 CDs with the virtuoso cellist Yo Yo Ma "Obrigado Brasil" Grammy award 2003 and "Live at Zankel Hall" (Carnegie Hall) also a Grammy award 2004. He is also well known for his work with Trio de Paz. Nilson Matta is truly a "powerhouse Bass player." (Downbeat Magazine).

Joe Locke - Force of Four

Joe Locke - Vibraphone, Robert Rodriguez - Piano, Gregory Ryan - Bass, Clarence Penn - Drums

Joe Locke, voted #1 vibist in Downbeat Magazine's Critic Poll who has played with Jazz luminaries like Dizzy Gillespie and Pepper Adams, leads his most recent band project, Force of Four. This unique quartet was made so by the melding of four distinct musical personalities into a fresh sounding ensemble. The group features Ricardo Rodriguez on piano, Johnathan Blake on drums and Robert Rodriguez on bass. Their album, "Force of Four" was released on the Origin label in June 2008.

Joe Lovano/Dave Liebman Quintet

Joe Lovano - Sax, Dave Liebman - Sax, Vic Juris Guitar, Cameron Brown - Bass, Marko Marcinco - Drums

This Quintet will feature Joe Lovano on tenor sax, Dave Liebman on sax, Vic Juris on guitar, Cameron Brown on bass and Marko Marcinko on drums. Joe Lovano's reputation as one of today's great tenor saxophonists stem from his fearless ability to challenge and push the conceptual thematic choices he makes in a quest for new modes of artistic expression in jazz. Recent highlights of his many awards and accolades include "Jazz Album of the Year" and "2001 Musician of the Year" from Jazz Journalists Association Critic's Choice Awards. Dave Liebman, Grammy nominated saxophonist, who has played alongside Jazz great Miles Davis has a large list of recordings both as a sideman and as a lead. "Liebman remains on of the living masters of the sax, whether he's blowing gorgeous ballads or caught up in fearless, soul searching, and streaming consciousness solos of volcanic intensity." (The Edmonton Journal).

Cecil Brooks III Trio

A West Orange resident, Brooks is not only the proprietor of the world-famous Cecil's Jazz Restaurant, but an internationally-known drummer and producer of many well-known recordings. A recent winner of Downbeat Magazine's Critic's Poll for "Producer Deserving Wider Recognition," Cecil has performed with many greats such as Stanley Turrentines, John Hicks, Billy Eckstine, Jimmy Smith, Geri Allen, Nat Adderly and many others.
