Pam Purvis and The Blue Sky Band Pam is a
dynamic performer who loves imagery and color, texture and sensuality. She credits her style to “living with a horn player” (internationally known Woodwind artist Bob Ackerman). She has appeared at all of the areas best jazz clubs including the Blue Note, Cecil’s Jazz Club Trumpets and Skippers and the Priory and has graced many of the stages of European Jazz Festivals as well as the Newark Jazz Festival and the Newark Museum Summer concert series.
Pam is the musical director of Generations of Jazz , an educational outreach program of the New Jersey Jazz Society, presenting a history of jazz to school children of all ages. Watching and listening to Pam is a treat because of both her considerable stage presence and her voice, which moves effortlessly through and around melodies in a manner that reveals a strong singer. Underlying all her numbers is an obvious energy that constantly seduces the listener.

The Blue Skies Band while deeply rooted in the heart of jazz has expanded it’s repertoire to include many of the great songs and rhythmic textures of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

Matt King Trio
Matt King began his piano studies when he was 5, and was performing professionally by age 14.
He attended the University of Illinois as a classical music major before relocating to the New York area, where he earned his degree in Jazz Studies & Performance from William Paterson University in NJ.
A Composition Fellowship recipient from the NJ State Council on the Arts, he has garnered numerous awards for his playing, composing, and arranging. Matt was a Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition semi-finalist, and the winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition in 2000.
He has performed with many renowned jazz artists including Chris Potter, Rufus Reid, Billy Hart,
and Charles MacPherson; noted Brasilian musicians Nilson Matta and Claudio Roditi; legendary groups Blood, Sweat & Tears and The Shirelles; pop vocalists Phoebe Snow and Curtis Stigers; blues great
Earl King, bluegrass master Tony Trischka, and many other artists across a broad stylistic spectrum.
Matt is also currently keyboardist and musical director for the distinguished jazz guitarist Chuck Loeb.
He has performed with four symphony orchestras in the US, appeared on The Today Show and Good Morning America, and played Holland’s renowned North Sea Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Vermont Mozart Festival, and numerous other venues throughout the US and 19 other countries.
King has appeared at Lincoln Center, New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), the Beacon Theater, the United Nations, and Rockefeller Center; at venues in Atlantic City and Las Vegas; and at regional jazz meccas including The Blue Note, Birdland, Smoke, Sweet Rhythm, Shanghai Jazz, and Trumpets.
Currently free-lancing as a pianist, Hammond organist, and vocalist in a variety of musical genres, King also teaches piano and music theory privately.

Joined by ace band mates Dan Kostelnik on Hammond B-3 Organ and Steve Johns on drums, the trio’s tight-knit performances of jazz standards, Rhythm & Blues, ballads, and Bob’s hip compositions and arrangements thrill audiences nationwide. His recent HighNote/Savant Records releases were on the top ten jazz charts for 46 weeks & on many Top Ten CDs of the Year lists.
Critics hail Bob as “the thinking man’s guitar hero,” “a brilliant, knowing bebop player”and dig his “infectious, funky groove.” As WBGO Jazz Radio, FM88.3's program director Gary Walker says, “Put Bob DeVos in a room with an organ trio and watch the paint peel off the walls….”
Bob has played with a who’s who of jazz legends both in and outside of the Hammond B3 organ genre, including Richard “Groove” Holmes-Sonny Stitt, Jimmy McGriff-Hank Crawford, and The Charles Earland Band with Eric Alexander, as well as many modern players. In recent years he has performed at the Kennedy Center, the Blue Note, the Kitano, SMOKE, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola plus many national & international festivals.
Bob is West Orange based and supports the performing and visual arts in his town. His band mates hail from Northern, NJ and perform often with Bob in the area.

Dave Stryker and the West Orange All Stars featuring Dave Stryker guitar, Bill Hart drums, Xavier Davis Piano, Chris Berger Bass, Virginia Mayhew Tenor Sax, Michael Karn Tenor Sax, Freddie Hendrix Trumpetand Stephen Riley, tenor sax
Guitarist Dave Stryker leads an all--star group made up of fellow West Orange residents Xavier Davis piano, Ed Howard bass, and Steven Riley on tenor sax. They are joined by Montclair drum legend Billy Hart, and alto saxist Steve Slagle. Stryker, recently voted a Rising Star in the 2008 Down Beat Readers Poll, worked with Stanley Turrentine for over 10 years and has released 20 CD's under his own name. Xavier Davis has also released several CD's and along with Billy Hart who performs on Dave's most recent CD "Strike up the Band" (SteepleChase). Billy Hart is known as one of the greatest drummers alive and has played with everyone from Miles Davis to Stan Getz. Ed Howard has played with Roy Haynes and Shirley Horn, and is a member of the Stryker / Slagle Band which Dave co-leads with Steve Slagle, who has 10 CD's of his own out, as well as work with Mingus Big Band, and Joe Lovano Nonet. Steven Riley has released 3 CD's on SteepleChase and worked with Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr.

Cecil Brooks III and the CBIII Band
A West Orange resident, Cecil Brooks III is not only the proprietor of the world-famous Cecil’s Jazz Club and Restaurant, a small, West Orange club about 20 minutes west of Manhattan, but is also an internationally-known drummer and producer of many well-known recordings. A recent winner of Downbeat Magazine’s Critic’s Poll for “Producer Deserving Wider Recognition,” Cecil has performed with such jazz greats as Stanley Turrentine, John Hicks, Billy Eckstine, Jimmy Smith, Geri Allen, and Nat Adderley. His latest project, Hot D.O.G. (drums, organ, guitar) features B3 great Kyle Koehler and renowned guitarist Matt Chertkoff.

West Orange Jazz and Latin Giants Featuring Oscar Perez, Ed Howard, and Kate Baker
Pianist Oscar Perez is a New York City native whose training has been as diverse as his musical tastes. During his high school years, he studied with two very prominent classical pianists, Robert Harris (Juilliard faculty) and Edgar Roberts (New York University faculty). He was later a student of Danilo Perez and Sir Roland Hanna at the New England Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music, respectively. He has spent recent years traveling and playing in the musical groups of Wycliffe Gordon, Virginia Mayhew, and Steve Turre. He premiers his latest project, “Afro-pean Affair,” created with support from Chamber Music America’s New Works: Creation and Presentation Program.

Nat Adderly Jr. Trio
Nat Adderly Jr is best known for his work as producer, arranger, songwriter and long-time pianist and musical director for Luther Vandross. His compositions include “Stop to Love,” “Wait for Love” and the GRAMMY-nominated “Give Me the Reason.” His many arrangements for Vandross include “Superstar,” “If Only for One Night,” “Creepin’,” and the GRAMMY-winning “Here and Now.” He produced numerous recordings for Vandross, including “My Favorite Things,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and the GRAMMY-winning duet with Beyoncé, “The Closer I Get to You” as well as Luther Live at Radio City Music Hall. He has also written arrangements for Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick. Adderley has also served as musical director for Ashford and Simpson and worked with Melba More and Angie Bofill. He is currently touring with Tom Scott.
